How to Make Money While TravelingWITHOUT Having a Skill Set

The hardest thing about traveling is finding the funds to do it. Sure you can hitchhike, couchsurf, and only visit these wonderful and free attractions of the world, but you still need buy food to eat (especially since dumpster diving is getting harder and harder as time moves on), kit to replace, entry visas, and other emergency costs for when things go sideways as they always eventually do. So how does one sustain a traveling lifestyle without having to constantly fly back home for work? The obvious choice is to just apply for a work visa and teach English in China or somewhere else abroad, but unfortunately these visas are only on offer to those travelers with a university degree or other specific, desired skill set. So what if, like Rob and I, you don’t have one nor the other? Well, in that case here are three cool ways to make money while traveling without having a degree or other skill set.

1. Apply for a Working Holiday Visa
These working holiday visas allow travelers* to apply for any job available, including those entry level possitions that one can get even without having a skill set. An added bonus is that these visas do not even require one to have a job already lined up beforehand, which means that you don't have to actually work to stay in the country. So not only are working holiday visas better than regular work visas in that they allow one to make money while traveling without having a skill set or college degree and without having a job already lined up, but they also actually give you a true chance to see the country instead of only being able to do so on the weekends. *Working holiday visas normally only apply to those under 30 and from select countries.2. Recycle Plastic Bottles in Scandinavia
This is a very simple process that requires no skill set whatsoever for one to make money while traveling. Simply collect any plastic bottles that you find lying around Scandinavia, and take them to one of the many recycling check points (which can normally be found in corner shops and major grocery store; if you can't find one, ask a local). Bottles brought in from other countries or areas are not accepted, however, as the recycling machine reads a special barcode to tell you how much money you get for that specific bottle. You then take this receipt to a cashier and exchange it for either cash or store credit. I haven't been back since, but in July 2013, one plastic bag of bottles bought me three peppers and some change. However, if collectedly vigoursly you can easily make thousands, which is what some natives actually do according to a few I talked to. So not only does recycling plastic bottles in Scandinavia allow one to make money while traveling without a degree or skill set, but you also get the added benefit of helping to save our lovely planet. Other places I've found to pay for recycling are the Walmarts in New York state. They're required to offer this service by law and have similar machines. However, they only accept products bought from Walmart, but they also have recycling machines for glass and cans which they will also pay you for.3. Find Forrest Fenn's Treasure
Located somewhere in the U.S. Rocky Mountains is a treasure chest full of riches new and old that are estimated to be worth $1-3 million. The difference in price is because no one (other than Fenn) really knows what special antiques he's locked inside the chest, though he has confirmed that there are some actual gold coins and a blue bracelet of such special value to him, that he is willing to buy it back. All you have to do to find Forrest Fenn's treasure chest is to follow the nine clues that he left behind in his cryptic poem. Talk about a fantastic way to make money while traveling! If you liked 'How to Make Money While Traveling WITHOUT Having a Skill Set', then you might also like these other money travel tips:
